PARENT RESOURCES & INFORMATION
MIDDLE SCHOOL GT AND HOW IT LOOKS
Gena Welborn, Gifted Resource Coordinator, AMS
The Gifted and Talented programs at the Middle Schools transform from what students and parents have become accustomed to in Elementary Schools. Middle School GT is composed of 3 main areas: Affective Support, Appropriate Pacing, and Enrichment. Remember that GT students are not pulled on a regular basis like elementary school students. Instead, students are offered a “buffet” of enrichment opportunities to select from in addition to differentiated lessons in their classrooms. Each teacher in our building is an expert in their chosen content area, so the students receive the benefit of their expertise daily. Additionally, students have Exploratory Classes that allow them to experience a wide range of interesting topics. One of our big goals is for our students to become SELF-advocates and gain the confidence to seek out opportunities that interest them on their own.
I will send almost all of my communication through the emails listed in Infinite Campus and Parent Portal. Please make sure that you and your students are checking and reading your emails on a regular basis. Please feel free to email me at any time. I try to always respond within at least 48 hours. My email is [email protected] or you may call me at Alcott, 405-366-5845.
